Google New Search Index - Caffeine


Google reveals today the new web indexing system called Caffeine. Google claims that it provides 50% fresher results for web searches compare with the old index method. The new indexing method was motivated by the content the web experiencing and blooming nowadays with more videos, images, news and real-time updates. (Remember previously Google announced integrations of real-time search on twitter and Facebook comment) Web searchers are expecting latest relevant content and publishers want their content to be found instantly right after they publish.

The old index uses several layers which were refreshed, means re-analyzing the entire web at a different rate; the main later would update every couple of weeks. However, this create a significant delay between find the new post and made them available in searches.

With Caffeine, Google says that they analyze the web in small portions and update the search index on continuous basis and the new found page will be added straight to the index. The Caffeine indexing in an enormous scale and could processes hundred of pages in parallel in second. This way, fresher information could be found and located faster.
