The method used for Gmail and Outlook is a little different. Gmail only give you a few seconds to cancel an outgoing email. However in Outlook, there is a recall message function to try to recall the sent message if the receiver has not open the email yet. Here is the procedure to recall a sent email in Outlook,
1) Go to your Sent Items Folder. Find the sent email you want to recall and open it by double clicking it.2) Click on Action menu (Other Actions in Outlook 2007) and select 'Recall This Message...'
3) A small window pop up and ask if you want to delete unread copies of this message or Delete unread copies and replace with a new message. (In order to delete the message you sent, the recipient need to have his/her Outlook open to make this happen). It also has a little check box to let you receive a notification if the recall succeeds or fails.
4) Click Ok.
If you check the box for succeed or fail notification, you will receive a notification minutes later to tell you if your message has recalled successfully.
I really need to thank whoever came up with this function / solution!
