People like new stuff. May it be news, musics, technological gadgets, friends, or anything that is different from what we used to.
I am a big fan of learning. I like to discover new stuffs. For example, dance. There are some many different kind of dances like Waltz, ChaCha, Tango, Foxtrot, Swing, Salsa, Hip Hop, two steps and many others. They are all so cool and don't you want to learn it all? From experience, most of the people who like to dance don't usually learn all different type of dances at once. They learn the basic and enjoy the dance.. Once they got bored, they discover different type of dance and jump from one dance to another. Somehow always believe the new one is going to be more interesting. Yes, they are right, because all the dances are all awesome. The only problem is, by the time they learn the sixth dance, they quickly forgot about the first few dance basics. For all the dancers out there, you know it is so easy to forget if you don't practice.
People make new friends, get new cell phones, learn new languages, or even cultures. Yes culture. For those who have traveled to a different country may understand this better. When we move to a new location, we blend in by start learning and adopting their cultures; their languages, their way of communication and their way of living. We adapt.
The problem is once we start to adapt and feel comfortable with the new culture, friends or languages, we are so accustomed to the new way of life and tend to drift away from our root. It is often a challenge to maintain the balance of adapting to the new life and preserving the old. The question, is it worth while to put extra effort into preserving our root? Should we look back and examine what we used to know, or should we look forward and carry on?
Anyway, Lindy Hop anyone?!
